“Making art is like practicing a religion. It keeps me focused on the mystery and beauty of existence.” -Siobhan Bedford

Siobhan’s creative drive: “I paint because it makes me feel alive. To create a painting requires using all parts of myself: physical, emotional, and spiritual.” Key emotion represented in her work: “By expressing a range of dark feeling to positive, my work is about the forces of creation and destruction in shaping existence. I am particularly interested in the point where those forces meet.” Thoughts on process: “What is unique about my work is the combination of control and chaos. I work using poured paint and small detail painting, and my paintings are done in thin layers. The effect is atmospheric with an emanating light.” Personal relationship to her work: “Making art is like practicing a religion. It keeps me focused on the mystery and beauty of existence.” Thoughts on sharing art: “On one level, making art is self-centered, working alone on my personal creative path. I think art enriches the lives of others because it is an opportunity to see through the artist’s eyes. The result is a changed perspective on the part of the viewer. I aspire to making this connection with others through my art.”
