“Making art is like practicing a religion. It keeps me focused on the mystery and beauty of existence.”

View Siobhan's Work

As a Phoenixville native and current resident, Siobhan works from her studio in the Phoenix Village Art Center. She has a BFA in Illustration and Painting from Marywood College in Scranton, PA, and focuses on abstract oil paintings on canvas and board, as well as figure drawing and sculpture.

Siobhan’s creative drive: “I paint because it makes me feel alive. To create a painting requires using all parts of myself: physical, emotional, and spiritual.”

Key emotion represented in her work: “By expressing a range of dark feeling to positive, my work is about the forces of creation and destruction in shaping existence. I am particularly interested in the point where those forces meet.”

Thoughts on process: “What is unique about my work is the combination of control and chaos. I work using poured paint and small detail painting, and my paintings are done in thin layers. The effect is atmospheric with an emanating light.”

Personal relationship to her work: “Making art is like practicing a religion. It keeps me focused on the mystery and beauty of existence.”

Thoughts on sharing art: “On one level, making art is self-centered, working alone on my personal creative path. I think art enriches the lives of others because it is an opportunity to see through the artist’s eyes. The result is a changed perspective on the part of the viewer. I aspire to making this connection with others through my art.”
